    Abstract:
In this paper, the role of multinational corporations in the process of technology transfer to a host country is examined. The multinational corporations have recently figured prominently in debates on national economic policy, international trade, and business-government relations. The case of South Africa, in terms of its policy of apartheid, and its political, economic, social and regulatory enviroment, is presented as an instance in which technology transfer has not been completely successful. Suggestions are made for action-options leading to efficient technology transfer, and the role of multinational corporations in this task is discussed.
