Materials should be regarded as left double quote sets of properties right double quote EM DASH properties dictated both by end-use considerations and by processing. Once the materials for a design are specified by properties, the manager can evaluate trade-offs between conflicting properties, between properties and costs (present and forecast), and between properties and environmental impact (short-term and long-term). Selected techniques for making such evaluations are presented. Keywords:
