We present some general analytical calculations for determining how the natural frequency of a linear oscillator with a one-sided displacement constraint varies with the positioning of the constraint. An experimental system consisting of a cart rolling along a parabolic potential surface (track) is used for experimental verification; a movable barrier can be placed at a prescribed location on the track to impose the displacement constraint
