    This article presents two new techniques for accurately measuring the strength of cell adhesion to artificial surfaces, and quantitatively investigates both the detailed dependence of the strength of erythrocyte adhesion on substratum wettability, and the influence of various protein coatings on the adhesive strength. Both the experimental techniques are based on subjecting the adhered cells to a controlled fluid shear stress produced by a well-defined fluid flow.
