This conference proceedings contains 21 papers on bioprocess engineering. The problems and issues in bioprocess engineering are separated into the basic and fundamental and the practical and applied. This volume presents papers dealing with both sets of issues. Basic studies focus on the behavior and response of living cells to fluid shear forces and on the bioseparation of products from suspended media. Practical problems involve the bioprocessing of hazardous wastes, mechanical seal design and the selection of stainless steel for the bioprocessing industry.
