  • Family Campout changed to Saturday, Oct 1st
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2011/09/23 15:59:31

The rain continues to linger, so we've made the decision to postpone the Family Campout until October 1st! Even if you can't (or don't want to) stay the whole night, you are welcome to come for any or all of the cookout, the campfire, the sparklers, or the smores. The cost is $3/person ($5 per non-member guest) and we ask that your RSVP to the office (684-6672) by next Friday so we're sure to have enough provisions.

  • Main/Wading Pools closed on Saturday 9/17
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2011/09/17 11:26:07

Due to the unseasonably cool and wet temperatures, we'll not be opening the main and wading pools today. The lap pool, however, remains on its normal schedule. Tomorrow looks to be clear and sunny, however, so it looks like we'll finish out the season on a high note.

  • Football Tailgate on Saturday
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2011/08/31 13:04:40

A reminder to come by the DFC tailgate this Saturday before heading over to cheer on the Devils in their season opener against Richmond. The weather looks to be fantastic for this weekend's festivities so we expect to have a large crowd. To help us prepare for the rush we ask that you do the following:

    No RSVP this year

    • Instead of taking RSVPs for 400 people (as we did last year), we're just going to order a large amount of food and assume that there will be enough people to eat it all! The food will be ready at 4:00pm at the picnic shelter.

    Parking

    • As we do for all football games, we'll have a parking lot attendant checking for current stickers. If you have guests that will be arriving in a non-DFC vehicle (no stickers), you'll need to call the office and let us know. Since space will be at a premium, we will turn away any cars without stickers that are not on our guest list.

    • We historically fill our parking lot by the early afternoon. There are little to no overflow options on football Saturdays, so please plan your arrival accordingly. Carpooling, if possible, is always great option.

    Guests

    • Although there is no cost to members for the Saturday tailgate, we are modifying the guest fees accordingly:

    • For guests that arrive in your vehicle and just head over to the game: No charge

    • For guests that just join you at the pool, fitness center, tennis, etc: $5 adult/$3 child (normal charge)

    • For guests that also join you at the pig pickin' : $10 adult/$5 child

    Saturday's Schedule

    • 1:00pm - 4:00pm - Pool Games

    • 2:00-3:30pm - Tennis Social

    • 2:00-3:00pm - Face Painting

    • 4:00pm - BBQ, chicken, fixin's and drinks available in the shelter

    • 5:00pm - Punt, Pass, & Kick Competition for kids on the basketball courts

    • 7:00pm - Football game begins

    !

  • Main/Wading Pools closed on Saturday, 8/27
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2011/08/27 09:33:46

Due to the wind, rain, and general unpleasantness of the day we have decided to close the main and wading pools. The lap pool will remain open (barring no thunder/lightening), as will the fitness room and group fitness classes.

Thankfully the storm is passing though and tomorrow looks to be a spectacular day!

  • Privates swim lessons are now available
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2011/06/02 23:01:22

  • Kids ROK Basketball Program Cancelled due to Weather
    Eamonn G Lanigan, 2009/03/27 09:24:28

Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating for tomorrow's program. Although it may not be raining in the morning, the rain today and tonight will make the courts wet and unplayable. They haven't been dry enough to play in the past few days, so I'm certain they won't be any better in the morning.

The program is canceled for tomorrow, but we will reschedule it for another time this summer. Next on the agenda in the Kids ROK series is Jump Rope on 4/18. We'll order better weather...

  • 2008 USTA League Tennis Play
    , 2007/11/28 13:55:37

TennisCalling all DFC tennis players!! It's not too early to begin thinking about spring 2008 USTA league tennis play! Spring teams form in January and February, and league play happens from early March through early June. At this point, we are thinking that DFC will field women's teams at the 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 levels (probably mostly evening, but we are open to the idea of daytime if demand exists), and men's teams at the 3.5 and 4.0 levels (evening play). Play at other levels is an option if enough interest exists! USTA play is a lot of fun! Teams typically play one night per week either at DFC courts (when home) or away at other clubs in the area. In the spring USTA season, teams field 2 courts of singles and 3 courts of doubles for each match. Teams can contain 14 individuals, and only 8 play on a given night, so not everyone plays every week. As a player, you can estimate that your playing commitment will be about 4 to 6 matches over the 3 month period (the exact number of matches depends on number of teams in each league). Even if you have never participated in USTA League play before, we welcome you to give it a try. You'll meet a lot of fun people, and play some great tennis! If you are interested, or think you might be interested, or have any questions about USTA league play, please contact Kelly Baker (DFC pro) at kelly.baker@duke.edu (or see him on the courts!), or Charlotte Clark (club member) at cclark@duke.edu. You must let us know of your interest by early February so we can determine what teams we want to field at each level. The January newsletter will contain a specific notification deadline date. See you on the courts!!!
