   Title = {The Koran in English: A Biography},
   Pages = {280 pages},
   Publisher = {Princeton University Press},
   Year = {2017},
   Month = {June},
   ISBN = {9781400887798},
   Abstract = {The untold story of how the Arabic Qur'an became the English
             Koran For millions of Muslims, the Qur'an is sacred only in
             Arabic, the original Arabic in which it was revealed to the
             Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century; to many Arab and
             non-Arab believers alike, the book literally defies
             translation. Yet English translations exist and are growing,
             in both number and importance. Bruce Lawrence tells the
             remarkable story of the ongoing struggle to render the
             Qur'an's lyrical verses into English—and to make English
             itself an Islamic language.},

             activists, in order to demonstarte the violence is always
             historically contingent, and must be contextualized to be

   Abstract = {Ethiopian Muslims have only had access to public space and
             opportunity for religious self-definition and collective
             influence since 1991. During little more than two decades,
             how have they advanced subjective agency within the
             political constraints of the current government, the
             Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front or EPRDF?
             This article addresses that question by backgrounding the
             history of Islamic expansion into Ethiopia, tracing Muslim
             engagement with Christian political elites over several
             hundred years, till the latter part of the 21st century.
             After the deposition of Haile Selasse in 1974, the DERG
             assumed power and in the name of a socialist agenda,
             suppressed all religions from 1975-1991. DERG socialism has
             been replaced by EPRDF pluralism, yet the structural
             constraints of the latter have weakened the efforts of
             Ethiopian Muslims to find their rightful place in the public
             square. Abetted and assisted by overseas immigrant
             communities, in both Western Europe and North America,
             Ethiopian Muslims continue to contest securitization and
             marginalization by the state, even as they struggle with
             regional, national and transnational issues that impact all
             Muslim identity politics in the second decade of the 21st
             century. © 2014 Hartford Seminary.},

   Abstract = {
Few modern artists so consistently embodied a fuzzy
             logic of their own as did the Indian painter Maqbool Fida
             Husain (1915 – 2011). His critics tried to define him as a
             reckless defamer of Hindu values, but another way to define
             him is as a dutiful devotee of a vision that was inclusive,
             rather than exclusive, and that understood all boundaries
             and identities as fluid or blurry, rather than as fixed and
             immutable. Or one might say that Husain strove to project
             what Ashis Nandy has called “Indian-style secularism,”
             celebrating creation, humanity, and beauty in the multiple
             religious forms of the subcontinent. Having lived and
             painted in India all his life, he was forced into exile in
             his nineties by right-wing Hindu politicians. In London, he
             continued to work on a new interpretation of Indian
             civilization as universally relevant, in a sequence of
             paintings with themes from the Mahabharata, while, in Doha,
             a royal patron commissioned him to paint a series relating
             Islamic and Christian civilization. The two series are
             shown, in this essay, to best exhibit Husain's view of
             “all distinctions” as “political, artificial.”
},
