(last updated on 2026/01/18)Abstract:
A total of 161 academic publications on the subjects of social mobility and opportunity in India that have appeared since the early 1960s and are concerned with one or more of educational, occupational, and income mobility, social status, and opportunity provision are reviewed. A great deal of important knowledge has been uncovered by employing a variety of research methods, but much more remains to be uncovered, especially knowledge of a practical nature. Future research needs to be more fine-grained and practice-oriented while engaging with the transition processes that are undergone by individuals.
