    Author's Comments:
This laboratory manual provides students with a comprehensive, semester-long survey of organismal diversity in two 2.5 hr. labs per week. The primary organizing principle is modern macro evolutionary biology. I have added phylogenies reflecting the most current views, and noted areas of disagreement as opportunities for future discovery. A noteworthy feature of the manual is that I not only provide detailed instructions for directed observations but also include a variety of hands-on activities and experiments to give students a better "feeling for the organisms" and sense of personal connection for member of for each group. Each chapter also features critical thinking questions that require students to make connections between their observations, apply principles of evolution and physiology, and put their experience with diversity in a larger context.
