    Abstract:
    Anhydrodihydroartemisinin [2], a potent antimalarial sesquiterpene endoperoxide, was converted to 11-hydroxyartemisinin [4], 11-hydroxy-11-epi-anemisinin [5], a ketone derivative 7 of artemisinin, and an enol ether epoxide 8. Compounds 4, 5, 7, and 8 were characterized completely by spectral methods including 1H-nmr and 13C-nmr spectroscopy. The stereochemistry of the epoxide 8 was established unequivocally by X-ray crystallographic analysis. © 1993, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
