  1. González, JM. "Hesiod and the Disgraceful Shepherds: Pastoral Politics in a Panhellenic Dichterweihe?." Anthony Snodgrass Festschrift. Edited by Bintliff, J; Rutter, K.   .

    Abstract:
I seek to motivate the indiscriminate abuse ("ignoble disgraces, mere bellies") to which the Muses at Hesiod's Dichterweihe subject all "field-dwelling shepherds" with reference to the pastoral politics of the Greek mainland in the archaic and classical periods. I draw attention to the Panhellenic dimensions of Hesiod's induction as an epic rhapsode.
