
Celeste Brace (she/they) is a movement artist and dramaturg with roots in Chicago and Colorado. She engages with dance as a holistic, spiritual practice and an avenue for curiosity. Celeste earned her BFA in Dance with Columbia College Chicago’s class of 2023, where she had the privilege of performing works by Darrell Jones, Lisa Gonzales, Raquel Monroe, C. Kemal Nance, and Paige Cunningham Caldarella, as well as performing as a guest artist with Ayodele Drum and Dance in 2021. Celeste has created numerous works and solos presented at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago’s stage including because you went out and this is for you, the former having been selected for the American College Dance Association’s 2023 National Gala. From 2023-2025 she danced as a Touring Company Member with Chicago’s premiere Afro-Contemporary company Red Clay Dance Company under the direction of Vershawn Sanders-Ward, where she performed works by Vershawn Sanders-Ward and Michelle N. Gibson. She went on to assist Gibson in residencies at numerous colleges, universities, festivals, and New Orleans Second Line processionals all over the nation, including Gibson’s 2025 Footprints residency with the American Dance Festival at Duke University. Celeste continues her journey to earning Duke University’s MFA-EIP with deep reverence for those she has had the honor of working with thus far.
