Abstract: Ellen Langer’s early observation that people feel a false sense of connection to uncontrollable events has led to a long line of research, originating with Langer’s illusion of control and spanning a wide array of studies on the endowment effect, the IKEA effect, and the not-invented-here bias. Ellen Langer’s contributions to the study of irrational behavior and attachment have helped form the foundation of behavioral economics, inspiring researchers to this day.
