   Abstract:
   Part of a special section on school fund-raising. School principals who are seeking supplemental funding should consider an approach known as fund development. Although long practiced by universities and colleges, fund development is seldom undertaken by elementary and middle schools. Fund development is based on planned giving, grants, and creative fund-raising--strategies that can be implemented readily by schools and school districts. Principals who are interested in this approach must plan more carefully than they would when carrying out traditional fund-raising efforts. A description of fund development is provided.
