Giulia Ricco, of Romance Studies and International Comparative Studies

Giulia Ricco

Please note: Giulia has left the "International Comparative Studies Program" group at Duke University; some info here might not be up to date.

My research focuses on Italian and Brazilian literature and intellectual history, with an emphasis on representations of state violence, fascism, and transitional justice. My dissertation, titled “The Lesser Evil: Legitimizing State Violence in Italy and Brazil,” reveals how fascist utopias are reinvented across time and space. I am originally from Italy where I obtained both my B.A. (2010) and M.A. (2012) at the University of Bologna, in Foreign Languages and Literature, with an emphasis in English and Portuguese.
