Research Description:
I am a graduate student working in the ATLAS collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider, and my advisor is Prof. Mark Kruse.
My main physics involvement in ATLAS is currently related to measurements of the top quark pair production cross-section. I am studying this process as part of an inclusive dilepton analysis which will also simultaneously measure the production cross-sections of WW and Z bosons decaying to tau pairs.
My other primary physics interest is in searches for stable massive particles, specifically using the Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT) timing information. I am working currently on a way to veto tracks with bad timing information caused by, for example, conversions in the TRT, which will upset the very precise measurements in this type of study.
In addition to these physics projects, I am involved in service work related to producing a common data format for the top working group in ATLAS, the Top Inputs D3PD.
