Mari Joerstad, Research Associate of Religious Studies and Kenan Institute for Ethics

Mari Joerstad

I am a Hebrew Bible/Old Testament scholar. My areas of research include perceptions of nature in the Hebrew Bible, responses to land and cultural appropriation in biblical writings, and the Book of Genesis. In my dissertation, entitled "The Life of the World: The Life and Activity of Non-Animal Nature in the Hebrew Bible," I focus on biblical texts in which non-animal nature displays characteristics usually associated with personhood. I currently work as the research associate for Facing the Anthropocene, a Luce funded grant led by Norman Wirzba and Jedediah Purdy, and housed at the Kenan Institute for Ethics.
