Candela Marini,

Please note: Candela has left the "Romance Studies" group at Duke University; some info here might not be up to date.

My research explores 19th-century visual and literary culture in the Southern Cone, particularly in relation to the processes of territorial expansion and nation-state building. Focusing on the marginal spaces produced by national narratives in visual arts and literature, I analyze the shifting associations between land and people as an index of the dynamics of economic and political power. My teaching and research interests also include contemporary Latin American film and literature, especially works that engage with gothic and fantastic approaches.
