Huijuan Li is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History and the Graduate Certificate Program in Feminist Studies at Duke University. Her research lies in the intersection of gender, religion, and citizenship in modern Chinese history. Under the direction of Dr. Prasenjit Duara and Dr. Nicole Barnes, Huijuan is working on a dissertation entitled, "Chinese Women's Search for Citizenship: A History of the Chinese YWCA (1890-1950)," which explores how female leaders and members of the Chinese Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) understood and practiced citizenship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
