| Martha Liliana Espinosa,Martha Liliana Espinosa Tavares is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Duke University. Her dissertation project addresses the early introduction of family planning in 20th century Mexico and the role of this country as a hub for the development and human trials of contraceptive technologies, such as the birth control pill. She asks how eugenics informed such family planning efforts in Mexico during the Cold War era and explores the proliferation of a complex network of local professionals concerned with the country’s high demographic growth. Martha Espinosa completed her B.A. in Journalism at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), and her M.A. in Gender Studies at El Colegio de Mexico (Colmex).
