    Abstract:
A computer model was used to evaluate whether capacitance at the junctions between myocardial cells could be discerned from the time course of the axial potential during a step current. Three modeled pathways were examined; 1) continuous core conductor, 2) discrete cells interconnected with junctional resistance only, and 3) discrete cells interconnected with junctional resistance and capacitance. A distinctive extracellular axial potential was obtained for each pathway. Thus, the potential may allow the experimental determination of which pathway exists in myocardial fibers.
