    Abstract:
This study resolves the long-debated question of the appropriate boundary conditions for the bidomain model. the derivation assumes that the myocardium consists of interconnected cells arranged periodically in space and, on the boundary, the extracellular fluid is in a direct contact with the outside medium while the inside of cardiac cells is separated from the outside by the membrane. Asymptotic matching of potentials and the balance of currents demonstrate that the extracellular potential and current density are continuous with the outside potential and current density, and that the intracellular current vanishes.
