    Abstract:
This study presents a concise macroscopic model of electroporating membrane. The membrane is represented by a parallel-conductance model in which the transmembrane current consists of the capacitive current, the leakage current, and the electroporation current through a variable conductance that reflects the shock-induced creation of hydrophilic pores. This model was used to compare the responses of the electroporating and nonelectroporating membrane to strong stimuli and to examine the difference in the response of the electroporating membrane to the first and to subsequent shocks.
