Alexis T. Franzese, Graduate Student    Edit

Alexis T. Franzese

Research Summary:
I am interested in social and individual perspectives of mental illness. My research questions encompass the relationship between issues of self, identity, motivation, and mental illness. I explore the effects of social factors on mental illness broadly, as well as social psychological processes of the self, particularly self-regulation. Specifically, my research is focused on motivational determinants of behavior. My clinical interests include the use of cognitive-behavioral therapies for individuals with mood and anxiety disorders and dialectical behavior therapy. Current research activities include a project on motivational style (regulatory focus) and adolescent substance use that I am conducting through Duke’s Transdisciplinary Prevention Research Center.
