Research Interests for Redford B. Williams

Research Interests:

Psychosocial precursors of medical illness and death, with particular emphasis on the role of the hostility complex (cynicism, anger, and aggression) and social support in the etiology and course of coronary heart disease; biological and neurobiological mechanisms whereby psychosocial influences on health are mediated; more basic studies of the psychophysiology of the autonomic nervous system and neuroendocrine system; the role of genetic variation in behavioral, emotional, and biological responses to stress; psychiatric comorbidity in medical disorders; cross-cultural studies of psychosocial factors in illness, with collaborations currently with investigators in Japan and the USSR.
