(last updated on 2026/01/17)Abstract:
Agent-based models (ABMs) have become an important simulation tool for understanding certain categories of complex phenomena. They are widely used in epidemiology, ecology, transportation research, social networks, and other applications in which the global behavior is determined by local behavior (which is usually quite simple, and can be represented through a concise set of rules). However, unlike many other models, such as linear regression, the statistical issues associated with ABMs are largely undeveloped.
