Melda Uzbil, Associate Director, Coulter Translational Partnership Program

Melda Uzbil, MEM, is responsible for evaluating the commercial potential of biomedical inventions and providing investment advice to the Coulter Program Director and Oversight Committee. For selected investments, Melda is responsible for managing the research and business milestones, developing and executing business plans, securing follow-on funding and marketing the technologies. She also teaches the Invention to Application (ITA) class with Barry Myers, MD, PhD, MBA. ITA includes interdisciplinary teams with PhD, MD and MBA students. The purpose of the class is to educate participants in screening novel healthcare inventions, developing business strategies, and business plans for real healthcare inventions coming out of Duke. Melda brings to the program a broad range of experience from engineering to marketing and business strategy. Most recently Melda held a position at the Duke Clinical Research Institute where she developed business and marketing plans for new initiatives. Prior to joining Duke, she worked at Pfizer in Turkey doing market research and strategic planning in marketing. Melda holds a Master of Engineering Management degree from Duke with a concentration in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Turkey.
