A novel quantum dot infrared photodeteotor design, based on double-barrier resonant tunnelling, is proposed and demonstrated. Theoretical calculations predict significantly lower dark currents in this device, compared to conventional quantum dot photodetectors. This is borne out of experimental results.Keywords:
