    Abstract:
The use of 3D nonlinear electromagnetic inversion for buried objects in layered media was discussed. Such a half-space background model appears acceptable for the inversion in the case ∈ e3 = 5.0, namely, when there is a relatively low dielectric contrast between middle layer and the lower layer. It was found that the background model is important to guarantee for the success of the inverse scattering problem. The results show that the technique can effectively accommodate to the case of multilayered media for surface GPR survey.
