    Abstract:
    When biologic tissue is irradiated by microwave pulse, it will generate thermo-acoustic signal due to heat expansion. As the electric characters of normal mammary tissues and malignant tumors are quite different, the detection probability of early-stage malignant tumors under microwave irradiation will be greatly improved. In this paper, the principle of the microwave-induced thermo-acoustic tomography (MITAT) system is briefly introduced. The factors which affect the resolution are discussed. Some preliminary imaging results have been obtained using the data generated by a simple sample under a homogeneous environment.
