    Abstract:
The modeling issues for a semi-active feedback control system incorporating an electrorheological (ER) damping wall in a small structural model were described. Experimental results show that the force in the ER wall rarely exceeds the yield force during the control experiment. The coupling of control experiments with numerical modeling illustrated that controllable damping offered more effective vibration isolation of the base-excited structural systems, and minimum device damping was the most dominant factor that controlled the accelaration transmissibility. The results obtained in this study are dependent on the power spectral density of the excitation and vary with different excitations of different power spectral densities.
