He wanted to be a developmental
psychologist, and for his dissertation he
developed a system of monitoring infant eye
movements. One day a colleague mentioned that his
system could be useful in analyzing autistic
children. The insight opened a door in Pelphrey’s
career and, ever since, he’s been heading in a
different direction, at the intersection of
psychology, cognitive neuroscience and imaging.
