- Jorge Bravo selected for 2006-07 Bass Instructorship Award

Jorge Bravo has been selected by the Graduate
School to receive a 2006-07 Bass Instructorship
Award. Jorge will teach a course titled "The
Comparative Political Economy of Contemporary
Migration," and will receive a full graduate
fellowship from the Graduate School.

Congratulations to Steven Wilkinson, who is co-
winner of the American Political Science
Foundation's
2005
Woodrow Wilson Award, for
his book
"Votes and Violence:
Electoral
Competition and Ethnic Riots in India".
The Award, made annually since 1947, is given
to "the best book published in the United States
during the prior year on government, politics or
international affairs," and carries a cash prize
of $5000. Previous winner's include Duke's own
Herbert Kitschelt, whose book "The Radical Right
in Western Europe" won in 1996.

Edmund Malesky's dissertation has been selected
as the winner of APSA's 2005 Gabriel A. Almond
Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the
field of Comparative Politics. The award will be
presented at the the annual APSA conference.

2004-05. Scott De Marchi's Computational and
Mathematical modeling in the Social Sciences was
published by Cambridge
in July 2005. Steven Wilkinson's book Votes
and Violence: Electoral Competition and Ethnic
Riots in India was published by Cambridge in 2004.

CIDE
in Mexico City, will join the Duke department
in Fall 2005.
