However, there is a large body of poetry that constructs a particular textual femininity through the use of the female voice. Some of these poems are by men and a few by women (including the trobairitz); many are anonymous, and often the gender of the poet is unresolvable. A "woman's song" in this sense can be defined as a female-voice poem on the subject of love, typically characterized by simple language, sexual candor, and apparent artlessness. The chapters in Medieval Woman's Song bring together scholars in a range of disciplines to examine how both men and women contributed to this art form. Without eschewing consideration of authorship, the collection deliberately overturns the long-standing scholarly practice of treating as separate and distinct entities female-voice lyrics composed by men and those composed by women. What is at stake here is less the voice of women themselves than its cultural and generic construction.}, Key = {fds306073} } @book{fds306072, Author = {Rasmussen, A and Eming, J and Starkey, K}, Title = {Visuality and Materiality in the Story of Tristan and Isolde}, Publisher = {Notre Dame Press}, Year = {2012}, Key = {fds306072} } @book{fds286561, Author = {Rasmussen, AM and Westphal, S}, Title = {Ladies, Whores, and Holy Women: A Reader in Gender and Class in Late Medieval German Texts}, Series = {Medieval German Texts in Bilingual Editions}, Publisher = {Medieval Institute of Western Michigan University}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286561} } @book{fds286560, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Mothers and Daughters in Medieval German Literature}, Publisher = {Syracuse University Press}, Year = {1997}, Key = {fds286560} } %% Papers Published @article{fds374543, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Gender, Reading, and Truth in the Twelfth Century: The Woman in the Mirror. Defining reading first as the visual processing and mental decoding of letters on a page allows this essay to glance briefly at some of the notions of reading implicit in the manuscript transmission itself, and to examine the motif of reading in the plays. We will see that while the motif of reading books and letters is not uncommon in medieval German literature from the 1200s on, it is virtually absent from the Nuremberg carnival plays, where it is alluded to only occasionally. That this should be so in a city enjoying high rates of literacy and renowned for its cultivation of literature leads us to further exploration of the plays based on a second definition of reading as interpretation broadly construed, in Dennis H. Green's formulation “the reading of signs where no actual writing is involved and where the reader is to pass from an external indicator to the concealed meaning. ” This expanded definition allows us to explore the ways in which the plays make their comic points by participating in and staging a broad and surprising spectrum of medieval interpretive practices: personification; medical diagnosis; character diagnosis using four humors theory; mental arithmetic Kopfrechnen and, finally, imaginative or performative visualization, a technique widely discussed in connection with medieval religious and devotional practice but less well studied in the realm of secular, comic literature.}, Key = {fds325138} } @article{fds286505, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {"Konrad von Ammenhausen"}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286505} } @article{fds286506, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Der Winsbecke}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Editor = {Bjork, R}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286506} } @article{fds286507, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Die Minneburg}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Editor = {Bjork, R}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286507} } @article{fds286508, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Mai und Beaflor}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Editor = {Bjork, R}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286508} } @article{fds286509, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Das Liederbuch der Klara Hätzlerin}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Editor = {Bjork, R}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286509} } @article{fds286510, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Hadamar von Laber}, Booktitle = {Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages}, Editor = {Bjork, R}, Year = {2010}, Key = {fds286510} } @article{fds286568, Author = {Classen, A and Rasmussen, AM and Stern, G}, Title = {The role of translation in German studies: With a medieval perspective}, Journal = {German Quarterly}, Volume = {82}, Number = {1}, Pages = {1-4}, Publisher = {WILEY}, Year = {2009}, Month = {December}, ISSN = {0016-8831}, url = {http://gateway.webofknowledge.com/gateway/Gateway.cgi?GWVersion=2&SrcApp=PARTNER_APP&SrcAuth=LinksAMR&KeyUT=WOS:000262888900001&DestLinkType=FullRecord&DestApp=ALL_WOS&UsrCustomerID=47d3190e77e5a3a53558812f597b0b92}, Doi = {10.1111/j.1756-1183.2009.00035.x}, Key = {fds286568} } @article{fds367646, Author = {Rasmussen, AM}, Title = {Was the damsel really in distress?
