Abstract: Dolomite precipitation in phosphatic sediments may take place within the zone of sulfate reduction or in the deeper zone of methanogenesis. High abundances of dolomite in a sediment require that most of this dolomite formed at shallow burial depths. Phosphate precipitation occurs shallower and faster than dolomite precipitation. Most of the apatite in a phosphorite deposit precipitates within a few centimeters of the sediment-water interface in the uppermost zone of sulfate reduction. -from Authors
