| David Stifler, Graduate Assistant![]() Please note: David has left the "Classical Studies" group at Duke University; some info here might not be up to date. David Stifler is a PhD candidate in Classical Studies, focusing on Greek and Roman literature. His major interests are clustered around sociolinguistics, and include such topics as multilingualism, pidgins and creoles, and the development and expression of cultural identity in antiquity along linguistic lines. He is currently working on a dissertation, provisionally entitled "Lucian and the Atticists: A Barbarian at the Gates" centered on Lucian of Samosata in the context of cultural and grammatical issues of the Second Sophistic. David received his BA from Swarthmore College in 2008 and his MA from Florida State University in 2013.
