Thomas Prendergast, Graduate Assistant

Thomas Prendergast

Thomas R. Prendergast is a Ph.D. Candidate in History and Nathan J. Perilman Fellow in Judaic Studies at Duke University. His research explores modern East Central Europe from a global and Jewish perspective, in particular how this region shaped concepts of empire, federalism, and internationalism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He has presented his work at conferences in the United States and Europe, including the German Studies Association Conference and American Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies Conference. In addition, his work has appeared in Comparative Studies in Society and HistoryEast European Jewish Affairs, and in the journal Religions as part of its ongoing special series “Empire, Socialism, and Jews: Writing the Monarchy Back into Austrian History.” From 2017 to 2018, he was a Fulbright Junior Visiting Fellow at the Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften (IFK) in Vienna, Austria. In January 2021, he will begin a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
