   Abstract:
   Various methods of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) profile analysis were assessed to determine whether there were diagnostically characteristic differences among clinically meaningful groups of children. Although differences in composite WISC-R measures were exhibited by children with mental retardation, learning disabilities, and psychological or behavioral disorders, few significant group differences were exhibited on the subtest scatter measures. The results are discussed in terms of caution necessary in making any diagnostic statements based on WISC-R profile scatter because of the similarity of the clinical groups to each other and to the normative sample.
