Abstract: The extent in which a grafted-polyethylene glycols (PEG) can restrain the adsorption and binding of avidin-biotin surface interactions was investigated using a micropipet technique. A polymer-grafted surface have a greater or lesser permeability to the adsorption of molecular and macromolecular species of a given size and surface interaction depending on the grafted-polymer concentration regime (mushroom or brush). The overall rate of avidin-biotin binding depend on the PEG surface density and the grafted PEG decreased the rate of avidin-biotin association reducing the diffusion constant for avidin transport to the vesicle surface.
