Abstract: A computational method for obtaining the gravitational potential of an object with azimuthal and equatorial symmetry is presented. The method is tested by comparison with a closed, analytic solution obtained for a class of flattened, centrally condensed spheroids. Additional comparison is made with the commonly used technique introduced by Ostriker and Mark (1968) in their calculations using the self-consistent field method. It is found that the present method gives results with errors an order of magnitude smaller for highly centrally condensed structures while using less computer time and memory
