Abstract: A finite-difference simulation and analysis of the Maxwell equations for the predicted perfect focusing geometry was reported. Subwavelength electromagnetic focusing by a negative refractive index slab was shown to occur in a full wave numerical simulation of a casual, physically realizable negative index material. Limitations on the observability of this effect in simulations and experiments were also discussed.
