Abstract: The equivalence principle and the Galerkin finite-element method have been used for modeling the incident and scattered electric fields within tissue for hyperthermia. The goal is to approximate the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution due to slab-loaded waveguide applicators as an indication of potential hot or cold spots and as input to finite-element thermal modeling codes. The calculated SAR within a sample patient model is presented as a preliminary demonstration of the software that has been developed.
