    Abstract:
The impact characteristics of a number of different types of shin guards were evaluated to determine their capability of protecting against tibia fracture in soccer. Focus was on the reduction in peak force, the associated increase in contact time, and the reduction in strain on the posterior side of the tibia that shin guards provided. The data suggest that heavier and larger shin guards provided the greatest attenuation of impact forces and bone strain.
