Abstract: A high performance, all solid state, modelocked flashlamp pumped Ti:Al2O3 laser is presented. The flashlamp pumped Ti:Al2O3 laser is a simple, economical, high peak power laser source which can be an attractive technology to conventional oscillator-amplifier approaches. Active and passive modelocking used in conjunction with the high gain and high energy storage supplied by flashlamp pumping has made possible the development of a simple, cost effective source of high peak power optical pulses.
