Abstract: If the fields incident on a buried body of revolution are polarized vertically or horizontally (relative to the ground), the backscattered fields are exclusively copolarized (i.e., there are no cross-polarized backscattered fields). After substantiating this theoretically, measured ultrawideband (UWB) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data are used for corroboration, considering real, buried landmines that approximate bodies of revolution. © 1998 IEEE.
