    Abstract:
This paper describes the use of a cost-effective screening procedure based on two simple luminescence techniques, synchronous luminescence (SL) and room temperature phosphorescence (RTP). The techniques are designed to rank air samples according to their total polynuclear aromatic (PNA) content. Several examples of screening of ambient air samples collected at industrial and residential sites illustrate the efficacy and cost-benefit of the screening techique.
