    Abstract:
Over the years, new techniques in chemical and biological sensing have set the stage for great advances in the field of biological research. One of the most recent technological advances in this area has been the development of nanosensors. A nanosensor is a sensor that has dimensions on the nanometer-size scale. Nanosensors of various types (e.g., optical, electrochemical, etc.) have been reported in the literature over the past decade; however, the emphasis of this review will be on optical-based nanosensors.
