   Abstract:
   The general form of the distortion approximation for semirelativistic collision energies is given. The problem of the anomalously large spin-flip transitions, identified in the symmetric eikonal model, is resolved. Symmetric distorted wave approximations are thus confirmed in their status as valid relativistic theories
