   Abstract:
   The article discusses the economic challenges that confront scholarly publishing. The dearth of university presses and the dwindling number of independent bookstores are party to the crisis facing academic publishing. The article proposes a number of ways in which the current cost of publishing can be distributed more equitably across the profession.
