   Abstract:
   Individuals may differ markedly in the relative contribution of cardiac output and vascular resistance changes responsible for the blood pressure increases they exhibit. Evidence is presented showing that these hemodynamic response patterns appear to be stable individual characteristics. Hemodynamic response pattern assessment promises to advance our understanding of the role of stress in the etiology of hypertensive disease.
